The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program was enacted and launched in 1990 and is considered the nation’s first modern private school choice program. The program allows students whose families meet certain income qualifications and reside within the boundaries of the Milwaukee Public School District the ability to attend a participating private or religious school of their choice, tuition free.
